New Era Veterans has been managing and providing social services for veterans at the 150 room supportive SRO located at 1150 Commonwealth Avenue in the Bronx since it opened in February, 1994. We have housed over 650 veterans during the years of operation, most of who left the program for more independent living. 45 of our tenants are housed under the New York/New York agreement.
We have partnership with all local VA Medical Centers and all eligible veterans have a primary care physician at their local VA. Together, since 1996, we have been offering outreach services on our mobile medical clinic throughout the 5 boroughs. This outreach, in addition to providing medical treatment, assessment, social servives, entitlement information, clothing and referrals to thousands of homeless veterans, offers the first exposure to veterans' programs. Through our outreach, we have been able to start the process of engaging New York/New York veterans in services. Our ongoing relationships with the VA Medical Centers help us to coordinate services for all of our clients, assuring that there is no duplication of services and that all needs that can not be met by the VA are met by the New Era Veterans. |
